Steps
Research current televised programming to educate yourself in current trends or opportunities.
Study the professional advice given by the television industry
Read the current reports on format and concept protection given by the industry
Write a descriptive but brief outline of your idea; usually 2-5 pages for reality-based concepts, and 3-10 pages for scripted projects.
Register your project with the Writers Guild of America for time-stamped proof of creation.
Consider using some of the industry websites sourced by production companies seeking new material.
Call development executives at production companies to schedule an appointment and pitch your idea.
I swear you can google ANYTHING! In two weeks, I am heading to LA to meet with a talent coordinator to... pitch TV show ideas!
Wow. That sounds amazing. Actually it kinda sounds more amazing than it will be. I am positive that there is a less that 2% chance that any of this would ever happen. However, just the fact that I have a)an idea b)an appointment and c)live close enough to LA to drive there - is awesome!
As you probably know, I am a little interested in Horses. While in Kentucky a few weeks ago, I met and made friends with some nice people that are associated with HRTV. That is "Horse Racing Television." It is a cable based network, and also does much of it's stuff online.
The job that I am really trying to convince them of is for me to be the "Post Race interviewer on Horseback." That means after a race, I ride out and interview the winning jockey. If you have ever seen the KY Derby, you have seen the chick that does that. She has the little antenna on her helmet! (you can see it in the Derby post below)
That would be the dream job, of course. As they don't really have the rights to the big races, that job most likely isn't in the budget. However, I also have some other ideas for them. I will keep them to myself for now. I would hate to completely embarass myself at this time.
Sometimes in life, you just have to go for it. Yes, this will most likely end in nothing, but I am proud of myself for putting it out there. I am also SO proud that I have a man in my life who is SO excited about this! He is 100% supportive, and is thrilled that I am trying to do this. He is even helping me fine tune my presentation. I am sad that Chad can't come with me, but I am so happy that he is so very supportive.
So on Friday the 22nd, I am driving to Los Angeles. I meet with the Rep from HRTV Saturday morning at Santa Anita racetrack. How cool is that! I will most likely explore the city the rest of the day, and head back on Sunday.
If nothing else, I will always have the weekend that I roadtripped it to LA to pitch TV show ideas! That just sounds SO COOL!
Happy 2nd Birthday, Blakey
