The Reason

On Friday, I took my horse, Demure, and my client's horse, Magic Stuff, up to Flagstaff. In a few weeks I am heading there for a big competition called the Coconino Horse Trials. I am competing both of these horses then, and over the weekend they had a course fundraiser. Basically you can practice the course you are going to ride, and there is a local eventing Pro that will be there to coach you. Sounded great to me, as most of the time you ride your horse up to the jump in a competition and they have NEVER seen it before! Since I haven't ridden Magic very much, and Demure hasn't done this in over 2 years, it sounded like a great idea.

We loaded up Friday morning, and headed up. I went up with Magic's owner, Nolle. It was unfortunate that Chad has his students graduation this weekend, and said he couldn't come. I was semi-irritated, as on Tuesday he leaves for 2 weeks doing a few different work related trips.

So, we drove up there, and I set up camp. Nolle has some friends there that she is staying with, and I was going to camp out in my trailer as I always do. Here in Phoenix, it is a high daily of around 100 degrees, and driving just two hours north, the high is 75, and the low is 40! So it was going to be a little chilly in the horse trailer. I figured I could tough it out and make Brett and Riddy keep me warm.

After I finished riding both the horses around the show grounds on Friday, Chad called. Just some light conversation about where we were, how things were going, and of course me giving him hell about not coming up... He had another call coming in and said he would call me back in a few.

I walked in the stall to wrap Magic's legs, and then I heard Nolle start laughing. I peeked my head over the door, and THERE HE WAS! Chad had left work and driven the 2 hours up to Flagstaff to be with me! I was so surprised!

To make a long story short, we had a blast. He was the perfect boyfriend. He trudged around the cross country course, following along with the spectators as we rode. He carried water, and kept handing it to me to make me drink. He made conversation with everyone, and just was incredibly caring and sweet. He even slept in the trailer with me in 40 degree weather, and never complained... Yes, that is why I moved across the country to be with this man.

He headed back around 2, and when I finished packing up and riding, I drove the ponies home. I was exhausted, but had to make it to the post graduation party! I went from being dust covered, wearing riding pants and having helmet hair, to a quick shower and a new dress! (thanks Rhoni!) I arrived around 9 pm.

Chad is not one to turn down an opportunity to sing! All in all, it was a great weekend. I know that I am so very lucky. I packed up and moved across the country, putting my faith in a man I hoped would be half as wonderful as he is. And now you know the reason.
