is a straight line. And that is just what Calvin Borel did in yesterday's Kentucky Derby. Wow. From over 20 lengths off the leader, going into the final turn, Mine That Bird just exploded.
On a sloppy track, they always say the worst place to be is on the inside rail. It's sloppy, it's deep, and it's soupy. And it worked. 2 years ago Calvin had almost the same ride on a horse named Street Sense. It worked then, and it worked now. It takes guts, luck, and a tall dose of crazy. If only I had bet it... If only I knew then what I knew now! Going off at 50-1, many others are thinking the same thing I am!
I love the fact that a $9,500 yearling can win the Derby. At least 2 other horses in the field cost 2-3 million dollars. (Desert Party cost the Arabs 2.1 million, and Pioneer of the Nile was purchased for over 3 million!)
I love this!
Happy 2nd Birthday, Blakey
