My Bluegrass Weekend

So, this past weekend, I attended my 15th year in Lexington for the Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event. This year, we added some activities, as I wasn't doing radio Friday night as I had been in the past. So Donna and I left early Friday morning, so we could attend closing day of Keeneland. I used to work there when I was 18 and 19, galloping racehorses, so this place holds a special place in my heart. That was our Friday afternoon. And no, riding horses gives you NO insight when it comes to betting. For Donna and I, 3 our of our 4 picks came in last. DEAD LAST! So much for picking horses that are the prettiest! We did meet up with Jack Brothers, a friend who used to own Big Brown. You may recognize that name, as that was the horse that won the KY Derby (and Preakness) last year. Jack was kind enough to get us into the VIP at Keeneland on Friday, and to let us meet Big Brown personally!

That was an amazing experience for me. I cheered him on so heavily last year! We even threw a "Big Brown Derby Day," a "Big Brown Preakness Party," and a "Big Brown Belmont Bash!" Of course, he didn't win the Belmont, sadly... This is from last year... And yes, you had to wear brown to the party. The second picture is of the cookie cake I had made...

So, as you can see, we were a little obsessed. So it was really amazing to see him up close. Another horse I got to visit, and even feed and pet was Smarty Jones! (He won the Derby, Preakness, and lost the Belmont by a neck!) That picture will be here in a day or so...

Another famous horse we got to visit on our trip to Three Chimneys was War Chant. As you can see, he is quite personable!

We were given the private tour by a nice guy named "Shorty." I doubt it is his real name...It really was amazing and fun. Can't wait until next year! (oh yeah, I will post more pictures of the actual Rolex event soon!)
